El ministerio de defensa indio la semana pasada firmó un contrato con el gobierno de los EE. UU. para adquirir torpedos ligeros MK 54 para sus aviones P-8I de la Armada.

Lockheed Martin Sippican Inc., Marion, Massachusetts, is awarded a $105,668,584 firm-fixed-price modification to previously-awarded contract N00024-16-C-6412 to exercise options for the production of MK 48 Mod 7 guidance and control sections and MK 48 Mod 7 Common Broadband Advanced Sonar System kits. This modification is in support of the MK54 MOD 7 heavyweight torpedo program. Work will be performed in Syracuse, New York (60%); Clearwater, Florida (25%); Braintree, Massachusetts (10%); and Marion, Massachusetts (5%), and is expected to be completed by December 2025. Fiscal 2021 weapons procurement (Navy) in the amount of $105,668,584 will be obligated at time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.

This contract combines purchases for the U.S. government (67%); and the governments of :arrow: Spain and Brazil (33%) under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. Work will be performed in Portsmouth, Rhode Island; and Keyport, Washington (5%), and is expected to be completed by May 2025. Fiscal 2022 weapons procurement (Navy) funds in the amount of $18,234,431 (66%); FMS Spain and FMS Brazil funds in the amount of $9,015,184 (33%), and fiscal 2021 weapons procurement (Navy) funds in the amount of $346,920 (1%) will be obligated at time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. (SAIC), Reston, Virginia, is awarded a $123,682,642 fixed-price incentive (firm target), firm-fixed-price and cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for the production of MK 48 Mod 7 heavyweight afterbody/tailcones and warshot fuel tank torpedo equipment and support. This contract includes options, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $1,113,036,995. This contract combines purchases for the Navy and the governments of Australia and Taiwan under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. Work will be performed in Bedford, Indiana (80%); and Middletown, Rhode Island (20%), and is expected to be complete by July 2025. If all options are exercised, work will continue through January 2033. Fiscal 2021 weapons procurement (Navy) funds in the amount of $96,968,905 (81%); and FMS/Armaments Cooperative Program (ACP) funds in the amount of $22,547,904 (19%), will be obligated at time of award, not to expire at the end of the current fiscal year. Unas dudas:
1)Se puede destruir un torpedo con otro torpedo
2)Se puede destruir un torpedo con cargas de profundidad
3)Se puede destruir un torpedo con disparos de cañón

Sobre todo eso se esta trabajando ya. Existen prototipos de torpedos de menor tamaño para "interceptar" los torpedos enemigos. De hecho, se contempla el uso de los torpedos ligeros de buques de superficie en esa labor. No hace falta que impacten, con estallar relativamente cerca podrian interceptar el torpedo entrante. Igual con desplegar una "cortina" de pequeñas cargas de profundidad tipo "erizo". Eso lo contemplaban mucho los sovieticos en su dia.

De desarrollar un arma CWIS submarina se habla periodicamente. Es una de las principales cosas que sale siempre cuando se habla de proyectiles supercavitantes.

Una duda ¿no había un cohete que contenía un torpedo ligero?,lo digo por que me parece una manera de crear otra capa defensiva más

Si, los ASROC, ponían en el agua un torpedo Mark-46. Los coreanos del sur tienen su propia versión.

Una duda nuestros MK 46 pueden ser modernizados o mejor comprar nuevas unidades.¿?

Pues por lo pronto se compro una remesa de Mk54 para las F110. Así que los Mk46 que quedan tendrán que aguantar en las F100.
