AirTanker has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for authorization to wet-lease its A330-200, G-VYGK (cn 1498), to Thomas Cook Airlines UK for use on transatlantic flights beginning in May this year.



In its application, the operator says the wet-lease contract will run from May 1, 2015 until January 15, 2018, with the aircraft to be used on flights from Glasgow Int'l, Manchester Int'l and London Stansted to Las Vegas McCarran and Orlando Int'l, and from Manchester to Miami Int'l and New York JFK.
Under the terms of the three-year agreement, Air Tanker will operate the aircraft under its civil Air Operator’s Certificate in a 323-seat configuration.

Y Discovery Air Defence (http://www.discoveryair-ds.com), que citó Silver en noviembre pasado, alcanza las 50.000 horas de vuelo ejerciendo de agresores con sus A-4 y Alpha Jet. Ahora van a por un F-16, serían el primer operador privado del modelo. Esa empresa ya tiene 14 Alpha Jet y 10 A-4N, además de 4 aviones EW. Nada mal:

This week, Discovery Air Defence is marking 50,000 accident-free flying hours with its fleet of Douglas A-4 Skyhawk and Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet adversary aircraft, which are operated under contracts to the military. Serviceability rates are in the region of 98 per cent – much higher than most military operations.
The requirement for this kind of contract work is growing, and later this year Discovery Air expects to announce the addition of the Lockheed Martin F-16 supersonic fourth-generation fighter to its roster.

Lo curioso es que mantienen todo el equipamiento militar, como radar, RWR y bus 1553. Tienen que tener un permiso muy especial, con esos sistemas podrían proveer de información sensible (p.ej. firma radar de cazas aliados) a naciones enemigas. De hecho tienen repuestos de sobra, por ejemplo 20 motores y 17 radares de más, que estarán súpercontrolados pero también podría dar para "traficar".

Los que no llevan joroba dorsal ni alargamiento de la tobera son claramente los A-4K ex-neozelandeses. Además se puede ver como lleva el de la foto la escarapela neozelandesa.

El que comenta Edu...Yo apostaria por A-4N ex-israelí. No conozco ningún A-4 mas que tuviera reductor de la firma IR (alargamiento de la tobera) salvo los israelies pero los H llevan mucho tiempo retirados como para ser esos. Se podria pensar que han modificado algunos A-4K pero es que hasta la cubierta de la cabina es diferente.

Nov 27/12: Skyhawks for sale. The Israeli MoD’s SIBAT department is advertising and promoting the sale of the country’s 44-plane T/A-4 Skyhawk fleet.

Some of those planes have been used in combat recently, though their latest service during the 2010 Gaza skirmish saw them dropping leaflets over the Gaza Strip.
