The IDF has rejected criticism that human error was behind the launch of 10 Iron Dome interceptor missiles after the system was triggered by machine gun fire in the Gaza Strip, saying that the preliminary investigation found that it reacted after being calibrated at a very high sensitivity.

“The system identified a launch toward Israel, toward the community of Zikim, which acted like a ballistic missile in every way. It was a serious threat,” said Brig.-Gen. Zvika Haimovich, the head of the IDF’s Aerial Defense Division during a call with reporters on Monday.

“There was neither a human nor technical error,” he continued, stressing that a high-trajectory threat was identified by the system, even though no actual rockets were launched toward Israel.

There was system over-sensitivity, and we had five seconds to decide. The moment something is launched from the ground toward Israeli territory, we consider that a threat,” he said.

Incoming rocket sirens blared across several communities in the Hof Ashkelon and Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Councils, including the cities of Sderot and Ashkelon, sending several residents and tourists into shock.

Local residents and soldiers stationed around the Gaza Strip also uploaded videos on social networking sites of close to a dozen Iron Dome interceptor rockets being launched.

“We are operating in a very complex environment in which there are mortars, missiles, rockets, machine guns and heavy machine guns – some of which are standard and some of which are not,” he continued. “Today, there are rockets that are fired like artillery shells and there are mortars that behave like missiles.

Our enemies are learning and developing.”

Más Brimstone para RU: http://www.airrecognition.com/index.php ... -2030.html
The United Kingdom has awarded MBDA a £400 million (US$570 million) contract for the capability sustainment programme (CSP) of the advanced Brimstone air-to-surface missile, to extend its service life beyond 2030, the European consortium said on March 27, 2018.

Under the CSP effort, MBDA will manufacture new Brimstone missiles for the UK Armed Forces in order to replenish the country’s inventory and to maintain the UK’s battlefield edge into the future. The new-build Brimstone missiles will incorporate all of the improved functionalities offered by the spiral upgrades of Brimstone that have taken place over recent years in order to meet UK operational requirements. These include the highly capable Dual Mode SAL/millimetric wave (mmW) seeker, enhanced autopilot, and the new insensitive munition compliant rocket motor and warhead.

The effort will also include a significant memory and processing update to the missile in order to enable all of Brimstone’s functionalities and to future-proof the missile. Brimstone CSP will deliver the baseline hardware standard that will be evolved through software enhancements which will result in a common stockpile of identical missiles for use on fast jets, attack helicopter and remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) for the UK MoD and will enable the manufacture of Brimstone to meet export orders. CSP modes will be cockpit selectable providing users with simple access to the unique performance capabilities of Brimstone against the most challenging of targets.

Brimstone 2 CSP retains a number of key components from the legacy Brimstone 2, including the new modular airframe, the enhanced dual mode seeker (94 Ghz Millimetric radar/ semi-active laser), the insensitive munition (IM) rocket motor, and the IM multi-effects warhead.
...
Brimstone 2 CSP augmentations include a new next-generation inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a new enhanced autopilot for improved precision at range. The CSP solution also includes a significant memory and processing update to future-proof the missile for additional functionalities. The missile will also receive an improved battery, delivering an additional 30% duration. Accordingly, the maximum range that the missile can operationally work at has now been increased by more than 20%. The ranges of Brimstone 2 and CSP have not been officially disclosed.
