Successful first operational NATO assessment of a Eurofighter Wing
2nd July 2009
Excellent results were achieved after the first operational evaluation made by NATO of a Eurofighter Typhoon Wing. A NATO evaluation team certified the Italian Air Force's 4th Fighter Wing at the Grosseto Base as a NATO Quick Response Force.
This means that the 4th Wing becomes the first Eurofighter flight unit to obtain this important NATO certification.
According to military news site Defense-net.gr, during the Paris Air Show, EADS redetermined its commitments towards the Hellenic Government, concerning the Eurofighter offer.
According to the brief, the price already quoted is 65 million euros per unit, at the date of the offer (non quoted), which will be revised in today prices, following the euribor rates.
According to the same brief, if Greece accepts the offer it will be involved in the development of the Trance 3 aircraft plus its weapons (mostly the METEOR), plus the new AESA radar, the Captor-E.
EADS is committed to deliver the new radar in the same amount of time they need to build the aircrafts, which is 36 months. (From this summer I guess)
EPA has declared that we need an AESA antenna (most probably because it will perform better against the F-35s), but OTOH all other members of the consortium are pretty much content with the performance of mecha-Captor.

Chao
la cámara de visión nocturna del casco se ha suprimido por razones de peso
The F-35 HMDS helmets cost nearly a million dollars each, and mass production will begin in about three years. One reason for this is continued efforts to reduce the weight of the HMDS. The day version weighs about four pounds, and the night version (with night vision capabilities), about five pounds. This is about a pound more (for each version) than current non-HMDS helmets.
