Lockheed, Pentagon Agree On Latest F-35 Production Lot

Low-rate, initial production (LRIP) lot 8 pricing will be released once the final contract details are firm.
The price for each of the three F-35 variants is roughly 3.6% less expensive than in LRIP 7; this should put the cost of an F-35A in LRIP 8 at about $93.3 million, an F-35B at $100.5 million and an F-35C at $111.1 million.

This lot includes the initial orders for the first two F-35 foreign military sales countries; Israel and Japan are each slated to receive their first two F-35As. The U.S. order is for 29 of the jets — 19 As for the Air Force, six Bs for the Marine Corps and four Cs for the Navy. Also included are two F-35As each for Norway and Italy, as well as four F-35Bs for the United Kingdom, Hawn says.

This lot is for fiscal 2014 buys and deliveries should be complete by the end of fiscal 2016.

The LRIP deal comes as the F-35 team plans for its first F-35C deployment on a carrier.

Lockheed Martin continues to slowly implement a fix to engines in its test fleet.

Pentagon Acquisition Chief Doubts USMC’s July F-35 IOC Target

It is growing more and more likely that July 1, 2015, will not mark the initial operational capability (IOC) declaration for the F-35B desired by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Marine IOC includes the first squadron, VMFA-121, with 10-16 F-35Bs and enough trained pilots and maintenance officials to deploy for war. The first F-35B unit is slated for its initial deployment in 2017 to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan.

The service initially will use the fighter’s 2B software package, which is limited in capability, to conduct basic close air support and interdiction activities. Weapons included in the initial package are the AIM-120C7 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile, Joint Direct Attack Munition and GBU-12 laser-guided bomb.

Israeli F-35 buy takes fleet to 44

Israel has decided to increase its acquisition of Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fighters by 25 aircraft, which will bring its fleet to 44 of the fifth-generation type.

El secretario de Defensa Michael Fallon ha anunciado que el Ministerio de Defensa (MOD) británico ha llegado a un acuerdo inicial para el pedido del primer lote de producción de cuatro aviones de combate F35B STOVL.

La aeronave operará tanto desde los nuevos portaaviones y desde bases terrestres de la RAF.

Se espera que el contrato final para el avión F-35B se firme en cuestión de semanas. El contrato formará parte de la inversión del MOD en Lightning II en los próximos 5 años para adquirir una cantidad inicial de 14 de estos aviones junto con los mecanismos de apoyo y la infraestructura necesarias.

El Reino Unido ya ha recibido tres Lightning II pero estos son para ser utilizado de prueba y evaluación y se encuentran actualmente en los EE.UU.. La primera escuadrilla operativa del Reino Unido estará basada en la base de Marham en Norfolk en 2018, que se convertirá en su base principal de operaciones.
