KYIV (Reuters) - Ukraine will sign a memorandum with the United Kingdom, securing 1.25 billion pounds ($1.61 billion) to build new military vessels for the Ukrainian Navy, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Wednesday.
The memorandum would be signed during Zelenskiy’s state visit to the UK on Oct. 7-8.
“This is an important strategic document ... we will sign this memorandum for the amount of 1.25 billion pounds,” Zelenskiy told local television, without giving further details.
Specialised military news agencies have said the funds would be in the form of a 10-year loan and allow the UK to provide 8 Barzan-class fast attack crafts to Ukraine.
They said the first two ships would be constructed in the UK with the remaining 6 vessels to be completed in Ukraine.
CARTAGENA, Spain – Naval forces from Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2), commanded by Rear Admiral Manuel Aguirre Aldereguía, completed a five-day NATO exercise Dynamic Guard II 2020 off the coast of Spain, Oct. 23, 2020.
Exercise Dynamic Guard is a series of advanced Electronic Warfare (EW) exercises created to provide NATO Standing Naval Forces with the ability to operate in an electronic contested and denied scenario.
DYGD20-II has provided SNMG2 the opportunity to plan and exercise a full range of activities under a controlled EW environment, to practice procedures and tactics, and to get a proficient level of interoperability with allied maritime units that participate in NATO maritime operations.
Spain hosted the exercise and contributed with five ships, a submarine and two Eurofighters.
SNMG2 is one of four standing maritime task groups composed of ships from various Allied countries. These task groups form the core maritime capability of NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF). They provide a continuous maritime capability to execute NATO missions across the spectrum of operations, demonstrate solidarity, and strengthen diplomatic and professional links among Allied naval forces.
